Bi-Partisan Gospel

For God so loved the world that He sent George W. Bush, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Wait a minuet that doesn't sound right does it?

No certainly not, but some how many Christians have seemed to make that mistake (I could easily include myself here). We have relegated the Gospel of Jesus to the Gospel for the religious right. We have acted as sheep and have followed the politically charged shepherds off the cliff of political activism. When a Christian used to hear the phrase "I am going to walk the aisle" they thought of salvation, now it means "you’re not going to compromise with those liberals are you."

We have not been given a social Gospel to be used to politically persuade, rather we have been given the very word of God that is powerful enough to redeem the souls of men. Have we lost sight of the awesome power of the Word and the grace that flowed form the pierced savior.

As Christians there are certainly political battles we need to fight, we have been blessed with the right and obligations to vote. However we have never been called to trade the preaching of the word for "Flush the John's" signs. We will travel miles to ensure the Ten Commandments stay in our courthouses and scream from the roof tops the evils of Walt-Disney World, but seldom do we take the Gospel to the "liberal left" and hope to welcome them into the family of God. Did not Jesus die for the Jew and the Greek?

We look at the world around us and start to think it is spinning out of control as we read the reports of debauchery, and somehow we think that change will come from Washington when it fact we can find our help in Jerusalem lying in a manger wrapped in rags.

I have to constantly ask to God to show me the Gospel, to penetrate me with His word and batter my stony heart with the cross. It is my natural reaction to want to be right (literally, get it "right") to stand up and speak out against the things I think are wrong, but if I am right what good have I served other than maybe to gain one more vote for "dubbya".

As I read a book this morning by Spurgeon he brought out an interesting verse:

Acts 15:11
But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."

This should be the doctrinal statement of every believer.

I think it fits nicely into what we are talking about here. No matter what your political persuasion, what you think about abortion, or where you stand on homosexual marriage; there is the great equalizer, the Bi-Partisan Gospel. That is what Peter is talking about in Acts no matter what camp you belong to salvation only comes through the grace that God richly lavishes on those who believe, republican or democrat, liberal or conservative.

With this in mind I am convicted of what I spend my time and mind trying to forward, it is not the Gospel of Grace, it is the agenda of a politician.

So we believe that will be saved through the grace of Jesus even as they (no matter what side of the aisle they sit on).

heard ya. you wouldn't think i'd hear the political agenda here at liberty university but sometimes i do. i often make this same argument to my political science friends and they stare at me like i'm crazy. i really feel that this is another extension of the health/wealth gospel. obviously as you said, we should be responsible citizens, but when did we start expecting lost people to act saved? good point made mike.

Right on Mike. Goes right along with the Sola Gratia post. We can get so wrapped up in politics, that our actions would almost make it look like we believe that a political agenda can save. I like what Jesse said; it's the depraved state of people that really matters. We might argue someone to believe abortion is wrong; yet, they still might die in need of a Savior.
