Exegetical Lifestyle
I was reading the preface to a book and one of things that it said was this: "this book is not for those who want to lock God in the Ivory tower of Exegesis and academia"
As I was debating if I should even bother buying and reading this book, which I did not, I started thinking about that statment.
The tower of exegesis is not ivory and I sure do not think it is a box that God is locked in. In fact I think it is more like a dip in a cool swimming pool on a hot day; maybe like a drinking a cold Corona while watching the Masters. Either way you get the point.
The study of God and His word, and theology is not a place where God is locked up but rather a place where we are freed to know God. The more I learn about Christian doctrine the more I understand about God, and the more I undertsand about Him the more I am amazed that he saved a sinner like me. These doctrines fuel a free life in Christ. When I read the word and see what it says about God it blows my mind everytime.
The more we study the more we read the closer we get to the Word the more radical our life in Christ becomes. The tower of exegesis is a place where an adventure lies around every turn a place where people are healed and blind eyes are made to see. The study of the Word of God does not lead to dry disconected living it leads to the heart of God; and there treasures abound, and there intimacy with the Creator begins.

the main thing to realize is that like most other things, theology can be an idol. i totally agree that it's idiotic to claim that studying theology is putting God in a box, but i guess i'm just saying make sure the motive is to know God better and not just to be smarter then everyone else.
Right and i think that the way to know God is to study His word and learn how he acts and moves. That is why theology is so beautiful because it let's us know God better.
